Behind Washington’s buttoned-up facade is a thriving city that rocks late into the night. After touring the world-class attractions, enjoy a fabulous meal, then dance the night away at one of the city’s sexy new lounges.

January Love Letter

I would just like to say at the outset that, much as I’d like to host you, my house is booked. As are hotels throughout the greater Washington area, DC restaurants, and even Amtrak trains traveling the Eastern corridor to the capital.

We’re talking about the inauguration of our 44th president on Jan. 20, in case you haven’t been paying attention. The quadrennial inaugural events always draw huge crowds to Washington. But this year’s is no ordinary inauguration.

DC officials are expecting as many as four million people—four times the usual number—to descend on the city to hail our new chief, President Barack Obama, and vice president Joe Biden. So if you’ve been fortunate or farsighted enough to score lodging and inaugural tickets, well, good for you.

And if not, come on, we’ll figure something out. Consult the city’s tourism website, Destination DC (washington.org/visiting/experience-dc/presidential-inauguration/information) and the Presidential Inauguration Committee’s website, (pic2009.org) for the latest info and plenty of great suggestions to make sure you get here.
