Best Weekend Getaway Hotels

Las Vegas

1

Green Valley Ranch
2300 Paseo Verde Pkwy., 702-617-7777, $$
greenvalleyranchresort.com

The Draw: This sprawling property feels a bit like the private villa of the rich uncle you always wished you had. With nearly 500 rooms and suites, it’s hardly small, but it’s definitely more intimate than the 4,000-room casino-resorts on the Strip. Next door, the District has nearly 60 retail and dining outlets.
The Scene:
A $110 million expansion and renovation means GVR (as it’s known to locals) has kept pace with some of the ritziest hotels on the Strip, which results in a slightly older and more moneyed crowd. Still, a new poker room, Ovation Lounge, and Drop Bar attract local hipsters in the know.
Hot Tip: If you’re craving a bit of Strip sex appeal, check out Skinny Dip Mondays at the Pond, a palm-tree-enclosed pool area with cabanas, bottle service, and music by DJ Shift.

1 Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa
11011 W. Charleston Blvd., 702-797-7777, $$
redrocklasvegas.com

The Draw: The stunning backdrop of Red Rock National Park, a 72-lane bowling alley, and three acres of poolside grounds where you can actually land a chaise lounge after 8am.
The Scene:
This swanky resort attracts more of a local crowd, which means you’re less likely to deal with bachelorettes in white veils, octogenarians in pink velour, or drunken frat boys gaping at the silicone on display.
Hot Tip: Hachi, the year-old Pop Art–inspired sushi spot at the Red Rock, is run by Nobu veteran Linda Rodriguez and has some of the best raw fish in town—but it’s still largely unknown to the masses. Get in while you can.

1

Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas
1610 Lake Las Vegas Pkwy., 702-567-4700, $$$
ritzcarlton.com

The Draw: In a massive master-planned community that invokes Italy’s Lake Como, this high-end hotel could not feel farther away from the Strip. Yes, there’s a casino next door, but the primary draw here is escape. There’s not much to do other than laze by the pool, get pampered at the spa, and take in the scenery. Though perhaps that’s just enough.
The Scene: Vacationers looking for a bit of R&R after a few too many late nights come to Lake Las Vegas to detox. You won’t find many late-night partiers, nor girls in short skirts and strappy high heels.
Hot Tip: Opt for a club room, all of which have lake views and include access to the club lounge on the Ponte Vecchio–inspired bridge, with four food and beverage “presentations” per day.
